Overlee

Overlee Community Association and the Overlee Swim Team were founded in 1957. The Overlee Swim Team competes in Division One of the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL).

The Overlee Swim Team participates in NVSL Dual Meets, Developmental Meets, Divisional Relay Carnivals, All-Star Relays, Individual Divisionals, and Individual All-Star Meets. NVSL rules pertaining to swim strokes, disqualifications, league eligibility and procedures are published in the NVSL handbook.

• Personal growth in competitive swimming with an emphasis on team spirit and sportsmanship above all
• Respect for officials, coaches, teammates and the other teams
• Seniors (13&O as of June 1 of the current season): team leaders in and out of the pool - focus on inclusivity and team unity
• OVL’s developmental focus promotes progress for all swimmers and looks to ensure the future of the team
• Reinforce proper fundamentals of starts/turns/strokes to increase efficiency and speed while reducing injury risk

The Swim Team is open to swimmers who are age 5 or older and under 19 years of age on June 1.

The swimmer must be a current member of Overlee Community Association. Inactive members are not eligible for Swim Team.

For safety reasons ALL swim team members must be able to:

• swim length of pool (freestyle and backstroke) without assistance and without stopping or hanging on lane lines AND
• tread water for :30 on day 1 and 1:00 by day 10.

Group lessons are available through the Overlee swim lesson program for those who are not ready for the swim team. 

• Swimmers should bring to every practice:
  • Swim cap
  • Clear or light-colored goggles
  • Reflective or mirrored goggles
  • Fins
  • Water bottle
